The horse is an amazing animal, and there's so much research now that is advancing our understanding of how horse-human interactions impact health.
There is something special about the moment a 2800- pound horse connects with a person, that requires that individual to be completely themselves.
Therapy horses are non judgemental and do not have expectations or motives toward the people with whom they connect. Horses have a keen ability to understand the attitudes and behaviors of the humans they meet.
According to CRC health, horseback riding or equine therapy has been successful in helping in the following areas:
Horses and Veterans are similar in a few very important ways. Though the horse cannot speak, it is keen to understand a person's actions and body language. Both the horse and the Veteran tend to be hypervigilant of their surroundings and potential dangers. The horse can sense a person's pain, anxiety, and fears and is able to react to those feelings. Horses are still willing to put their trust in these individuals, and a relationship between a horse and Veteran is built.
